Pig Kissers

Swine Flu - it will be the lead story on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc. until something that gets better ratings comes along. Jason says they're "fear mongers." Key words for those covering this story have been: pandemic, deadly, big story, confirmed cases, public health emergency, etc. Dun dun dun!

So that you don't catch this deadly pandemic, it's very important that you follow this advice: QUIT KISSING PIGS!!!! At least until the talking heads can get this under control. For those of you that are actually married to pigs, I hope you got the swine flu vaccine this year.

Seriously though, the symptoms are supposed to be those that you'd experience with the "human" flu. If you're dying to learn more, check out this website:

New Carpet

I'm thinking about getting new carpet for our bedrooms. We've needed it since we bought the house 5 years ago, really.

I'm certainly clueless on the whole process...
-Where to get the best deal, without sacrificing quality
-what color/brand/texture to get
-what do I need to know about the carpet padding that goes underneath
-etc

Anybody with carpet-buying experience have any tips before I start looking?

UPDATE: got new carpet installed; used El Dorado Custom Carpet (they also tiled both of our bathrooms). Did a good job!

Dr. Elia gave Mary Claire 2 thumbs up on her first trip to the dentist, but it turns out she has an extra tooth on the bottom. How funny! She's such a dare devil, God probably has plans for it - maybe it will get knocked out one day.

I Need a Wife...

Seriously. I really truly love my job, and my kids, and my husband. But I HATE coming home after a long day of work to my messy house. It's terribly depressing.

I am thinking it may be worthwhile to pay someone to help me out a couple days a week for a couple hours at a time. Anybody interested or know anyone who might be?

I mean someone with initiative - loading/unloading dishwasher, laundry, general decluttering, and anything else that would otherwise make me dread coming home.

This occured to me after I read about Puny Bradshaw in "At Home in Mitford." Puny, I need you!!

Dirty Little Secrets of Motherhood

I am watching Oprah's Secret Life of Moms episode that I DVR'd this week. Moms confess all their dirty little secrets that they would normally NEVER admit to anyone. These are SO FUNNY and SO TRUE!!! One lady on the show said she once forgot her kid's lunch for school, so she packed him a lunch using "snacks" she had in her messy car. :)

The point? Why are we hiding our dirty little motherhood secrets from each other? Why are we trying to put a facade on reality, when we could be sharing with one another, laughing at ourselves, and realizing that there is NO SUCH THING AS A PERFECT MOTHER and we are not failures because we can't do it all, all the time.

My dirty little secret? I have LOTS, but as I'm typing this, Jason just walked by and swatted Mary Claire because she was playing with my laptop cord at the wall outlet. Should I be watching her every move instead of blogging? Yes. But alas, I continue with my innermost confessions...

• I secretly wish I had my own apartment
• I feel guilty that I like going to work so much
• I find that slowly browsing the aisles at Wal-Mart, by myself is BETTER than therapy

To all my K-Love Radio listener friends - WHAT happened to Jon and Sherry Rivers?? They just left the morning show out of the blue - no goodbyes or anything. I know whatever the reason is, it can't be good so I said a prayer for them and hope they can get through whatever it is.

They were such great hosts - cute as they could be together!
