The Prayer

My path crosses at work a couple times a year with a gentleman who is in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He gave me their latest Album, Heavensong, not long after it came out.

Their rendition of “The Prayer” is just breathtaking. This YouTube doesn’t do it justice.

The kids and I have been listening to it lately in the car with the volume almost all the way up. They love it! Really. But we were listening to it this morning on the way to school, and when we got close, Ben said, “OK, mom, turn it down we’re here.” I take it his friends wouldn’t find it cool. …Oh wait, I think we may be getting close to the stage where I’m not cool anymore. Oh well, I’ll think about that tomorrow.

Anyway, starting at about 2 mins, 39 seconds into the song, it sends chills up my spine. I would LOVE to hear them in person.

I pray you’ll be our eyes
And watch us where we go
And help us to be wise
In times when we don’t know

Let this be our prayer
As we go our way
Lead us to a place
Guide us with your Grace
To a place where we’ll be safe

I pray we’ll find your light
And hold it in our hearts
When stars go out each night

Let this be our prayer
When shadows fill our day
Lead us to a place
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we’ll be safe.

We ask that life be kind
And watch us from above
We hope each soul will find
Another soul to love

Let this be our prayer
Just like every child
Needs to find a place,
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we’ll be safe
